Caring for our animals is a true labor of love — but it also comes with significant responsibility and cost.

Every day, they depend on us for food, shelter, care, and safety. Behind the scenes, this means continuous expenses: quality feed, veterinary care, stable maintenance, and many unforeseen costs along the way.

For the winter of 2025/26, for example, we transformed an old barn into a safe winter home for our goats. Because they are large, horned animals, it’s not enough to simply provide shelter — the space must be carefully designed so that even the weaker members of the herd have protected areas where they can retreat and feel safe.

Feeding them is another essential part of our daily work. High-quality hay costs around CHF 30 per kilogram, and we need large quantities — especially in winter, when we go through around 200 bales. As goats are naturally selective eaters, some food waste is unavoidable, even though every bit matters.

We always aim to give our animals not just what they need, but what truly enriches their lives. Something as simple as a large grooming brush — where they can scratch, relax, and care for themselves — would make a big difference to their well-being. But at nearly CHF 1,000, it is currently beyond our reach.
